Why professional cleaning
Your rug is an investment. Wash it like one.
Vacuuming only lifts surface dirt. The grit, stains and contaminants deeper in the pile keep wearing fibers down. A professional wash brings back your rug's beauty, extends its life and makes your home healthier.

Read the guideThe Rug Clinic Care process
Nine careful steps. One rug at a time.
Every rug is inspected, dusted, hand-washed and finished on its own, never batched with anyone else's. Scroll to follow one from dirty to clean.
We inspect before we touch
We study the fibers, weave and dyes, then mark every stain, odor, repair and color-stability risk.
Why it matters. The inspection decides the method, so your rug gets the safest wash for what it is made of.
- We inspect before we touch. We study the fibers, weave and dyes, then mark every stain, odor, repair and color-stability risk. The inspection decides the method, so your rug gets the safest wash for what it is made of.
- The dust comes out first. Specialized equipment lifts the grit buried deep in the pile, before any water touches the rug. Wet grit works deeper and wears fibers faster. Removing it dry makes the wash far more effective.
- Problem spots get a treatment of their own. Enzyme solutions for pet stains, plus moth treatment, mold remediation or color stabilizers, chosen for what your rug needs. A targeted treatment reaches problems a general wash would leave behind.
- A deep, gentle hand wash. Your rug is hand-washed in gentle, eco-friendly detergent through a deep water submersion that flushes out contaminants. Submersion reaches where surface cleaning cannot, while mild products protect the dyes.
- Worked through by hand. Our technicians move the wash through the pile with the care the weave calls for, so soil lets go without damaging fibers. Skilled hands feel what machines miss, so fragile areas only get the pressure they can take.
- Rinsed until it runs clear. Multiple rinses carry away every trace of detergent and loosened soil, leaving nothing but clean fibers. Leftover cleaner attracts dirt, so a thorough rinse keeps your rug cleaner for longer.
- Water out, fast. Professional-grade extraction pulls the excess water out of the rug. A faster dry protects against moisture problems like mold and mildew.
- Dried slowly, balanced to the correct pH. The rug dries in a controlled environment while we balance its fibers to their optimal, “happy state.” Controlled drying prevents shrinkage, and balanced fibers feel softer, look brighter and stay more stable.
- Conditioned, groomed, delivered. Final conditioning and pile grooming restore your rug's natural softness and luster. Then we bring it home and lay it out. The finishing touch: it feels as good as it looks.

How do I know if my rug needs cleaning?
Try these quick checks:
- Kick test. Lift a corner and kick the back sharply. A cloud of dirt means it needs cleaning. (A little dust and wool fiber is normal.)
- Hand test. Rub the pile firmly for 5 to 10 seconds. If your hand comes away dirty, it's time.
- Base test. Fold a section back so the pile opens along a line of knots. If the warp and weft look dirty, there is deep dirt your vacuum can't reach.
- Smell. If the rug has an odor, it needs cleaning.
- After storage. Stored rugs can collect dirt and wool-eating moths, so wash before you put one back to use.
- Stains and spills. Treat them right away to prevent permanent color damage. Quick treatment may mean you don't need a full wash.
Will washing wear out my rug?
No, the opposite is true. A dirty rug wears faster, because grit grinds into the fibers under foot traffic and weakens them. A thorough wash removes that grit and softens the fibers. It resets the wear clock on your rug.
What types of rugs do you wash?
All types of area rugs: Navajo and tribal weaves, kelims and sumaks, Karastans and machine-made, shag, braided, needlepoint, Flokati sheepskin, Oriental, Persian, Turkish, hand-tufted, antique and vintage rugs, and cowhides.
How long does it take?
Most rugs come back in about one to two weeks. We inspect every rug first, and some need extra washes or dusting, which takes longer. Larger rugs take longer to dry and can take up to three weeks.
How often should I wash my rugs?
It depends on traffic. Rugs in daily use, such as entryway and kitchen rugs, are due for a thorough dusting and wash about every two years. Rugs in quieter, low-traffic rooms can go four to five years. If a rug gets a pet stain or a wine spill, treat it right away.
How can I protect my rug from sun fade?
Sunlight causes fading and weakens fibers over time. Limit exposure with sheers or drapes, and rotate the rug 180 degrees every 12 months so it fades evenly. We also offer UV protection, which keeps the original colors bright and the fibers protected from wear and stains.
Do you handle insurance claims?
Yes. Insurance companies rely on our expertise to evaluate rugs, and we provide a documented appraisal of your rug's value. If a flood or water damage led to a claim, we'll work with you and your insurer to get your rugs back to looking fresh and clean.
Do you offer pickup and delivery?
Yes. We collect your rug, and once every treatment is complete we deliver it back and help lay it out in your space.
