See the difference

A hole is not the end of a rug.

A dog chewed a piece out of this rug. We rebuilt the foundation, matched the yarn and re-knotted the pile by hand. Drag the handle to compare the same rug after repair.

Our repair philosophy

Value-driven. Transparent. Never more than needed.

Every repair has one goal: protecting the long-term value of your rug. Handmade, antique and specialty rugs can lose value when repairs are excessive, poorly executed or mismatched to the rug’s construction. So before we touch a rug, we weigh what makes sense for it.

  • We check whether a repair makes financial and structural sense.
  • We avoid over-restoration that would reduce originality.
  • We recommend repairs that extend use without altering authenticity.
  • We consider age, origin, materials and market value first.

If a repair does not make sense for your rug, we will tell you, honestly.

Weaving and knot reconstruction

Rebuilt the way the rug was made.

Our restoration goes beyond the surface. We rebuild rugs with traditional weaving techniques based on each rug’s original knot structure, and we work with and recreate every common knot and weave.

Persian (Senneh) knot

An asymmetric knot that allows finer detail and smoother curves. Repairs tied with it blend in and keep the refined look of Persian and other high-detail rugs.

Asymmetric. The yarn circles one warp and only passes the next, so both ends rise on the same side. That is what lets the pile sit fine and close.

Repair options

The right repair for the rug and the budget.

We assess your rug’s value, condition and intended use, then recommend the option that makes the most sense: never more than needed, never less than responsible care. Each card opens a short video of that repair being done.

How we repair

Custom made, by hand, in our own workshop.

Every repair is done by hand by our own repair specialists in our Denver and Austin workshops. Nothing is sent out. You get a written estimate and a time frame before any work starts, and your rug stays in our care from drop-off to delivery.

  1. 1

    Assess the damage

Before we start, we look at the type of damage to decide the repair method and technique.

  2. 2

    Rebuild the foundation

For a tear or hole, we first make the foundation on which the knots are tied and the pile is made.

  3. 3

    Match the weave

We match the weave, the color of the yarn and the design, so the repair blends in.

  4. 4

    Edges and fringe

Where sides and fringes are damaged, we remake them from the rug's own foundation. Hand restoration rebuilds fringe from the foundation itself; pre-made fringe is available as an economical machine finish on our binding and serging service.

“The repair and cleaning to our rugs was excellent. We cannot even find where the repair was done to match the rest of the edging, and that is unusual.”

FAQs

Questions about repairs, answered.

Still unsure? Call 303-777-4944.

Can a rug with a hole or a chewed corner be repaired?

Yes. When a dog chews off a piece of a rug, it is not all gone. Only a piece of the rug might be, and in almost every case the rug can be repaired so it looks like it never happened. We offer any type of repair on any type of rug.

What kinds of damage and repairs do you handle?

We repair moth damage, fire and smoke damage, mildew and rotted sections, water and flood damage, and color runs. We also offer re-fringing and fringe replacement, rebinding, mothproofing, re-piling, dyeing, resizing, re-weaving of damaged sections, and replacing serging or binding.

Do you use ready-made fringe?

For restoration work, no: we make fringes from the foundation of the rug itself. If you want an economical finish rather than a restoration, pre-made fringe is one of the machine finishes on our binding and serging service.

Is my rug worth repairing?

Your rug may be a treasured family heirloom, and a restoration is meant to bring a piece back to its original state. If the services would cost more than the rug is worth, we will tell you and give you other options, so you can make the right decision.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

Yes. We collect your rug, and once every treatment is complete we deliver it back and help lay it out in your space.
